Jeder kennt doch das Gefühl: eine Hardrock Playlist läuft und es folgt ein unbekannter Track, der euch direkt vom Hocker haut! Musik, die euch nicht nur unter die Haut geht, euren Kopf im Takt mitwippen lässt und euch automatisch dazu verleitet die Lautstärke noch ein wenig mehr aufzudrehen. Sie lässt euch vor allem eins und das ist mitfühlen! Aus diesem Grund möchte ich euch den dänischen Musiker BLUE ROSE DOWN vorstellen, der heute die neue Single „Sinkin‘ My Ships“ veröffentlicht. Mit seiner Resonator Gitarre, einem Fuzz-Pedal und einer gewaltigen Kickdrum produziert er den rohen Bastard Blues. In den Texten thematisiert der Künstler mentale Probleme wie Frustration, Selbsthass, Chaos oder Abhängigkeiten, die in unserer Gesellschaft tot geschwiegen werden und sich kaum einer wagt offen darüber zu reden! Der Musiker präsentiert die ungeschönte Wahrheit und stellt sich einem Kampf mit seinen eignen Dämonen. Damit zeigt er anderen Menschen, dass sie in der großen, weiten Welt nicht alleine sind und er ihnen mit seiner Musik durch diese schwere Zeit verhilft. Um euch einen Einblick in die Welt von BLUE ROSE DOWN zu bieten und mit euch diesen musikalischen Balsam zu teilen, habe ich mich mit dem Musiker zusammengetan, der im Folgenden über die Bedeutung der Single und den Entstehungsprozess redet.
Warum eine Opferrolle in einer Beziehung so gefährlich werden kann und was es mit dem Song auf sich hat:
„“Sinkin' My Ships” ist eigentlich inspiriert von meiner Exfreundin, die mich damals betrogen hat. Damals fühlte ich mich wirklich wie ein Opfer und ich suchte konstant nach einer Art von Trost, aber ein paar Jahre später war es mir möglich zu denken: „Was wenn sie mich betrogen hat, weil ich verdammt träge war?“ In vielerlei Hinsicht ist dieser Song über eine Person, die sich wie ein Opfer fühlt, aber keines ist. Wenn du denkst, dass du das Recht hast dich wie ein Opfer zu fühlen, bekommst du eine Art von Macht über deine Beziehungen. Diese Opfer Mentalität kann dir manchmal die Oberhand in einer Beziehung geben. Das kann zu manipulativen Fähigkeiten über andere führen, sodass du andere zwingst sich erniedrigt zu fühlen. In vielerlei Hinsicht handelt dieser Song über einen Soziopaten, der sich anderen überlegen fühlt wegen seiner Opferrolle. Für mich ist „Sinkin' My Ships” ein sehr kraftvoller Song. Eigentlich erzählt er genau wie ich mich in vielen Momenten gefühlt habe; zum einen, wenn es zu den meisten meiner Beziehungen kommt, die ich hatte, und ebenfalls wie ich mich manchmal fühle, wenn Menschen mich als ein Außenseiter kategorisieren."
Der Entstehungsprozess:
„Normalerweise mag ich es nicht einen Kapodaster auf meinem Resonator zu benutzen, aber dieses Mal entschied ich mich es zu probieren; platziere es auf dem vierten Bund und schreibe einen Rockriff – nur um zu sehen, was passiert. Der Riff ist eine Hardrock Version von einem Blues Lick, den ich sehr mag. Die Gitarren Parts sind inspiriert von Shakey Graves und seinem Song „Late July“. Ich spielte mit dem Intro herum bis mein guter Freund Birk, von der Band Timechild, mir sagte: „ Warum spielst du nicht den ersten Part immer und immer wieder?“ Ich versuchte es und es funktionierte – so übernahm ich Birks Idee für das Intro."
„Ich nahm den Song, zusammen mit meinem üblichen Producer Anders Overgaard, im Sommer 2020 in Kopenhagen auf. Normalerweise wenn wir im Studio sind, kommt unser guter Freund Rasmus von der Band Inthewaves vorbei. Er hat teilt immer gute Ideen mit uns, wenn wir am Aufnehmen sind. Anders und ich hatten eine Diskussion wegen dem Solo für beinah zwei Stunden, als Rasmus im Studio vorbei kam und mir sagte: „Hey, warum spielst du es nicht, als würdest du direkt in eine Mündung einer Pistole schauen? Was wären deine letzten Gedanken bevor du stirbst?“ Wir haben einen Take gebraucht und es war im Kasten."
Was möchte BLUE ROSE DOWN seinen Zuhörern vermitteln?
„Ich möchte, dass sich Menschen diese Songs anhören und denken: „Fuck ja, ich stimme dem zu.“ und sich wohl mit sich selbst fühlen und dem, was sie durchmachen. Ich habe zuletzt mit vielen neuen Fans und Freunden geschrieben und geredet und es war mir eine wirkliche Freude ihre Gedanken und Gefühle zu erfahren, als sie meine Musik gehört haben, als sie zurück auf den Sattel wollten. Das ist genau wofür BLUE ROSE DOWN steht. Es ist für jeden und insbesondere für Leute, die ihre Kämpfe gewinnen wollen und zurück auf die Beine kommen."

Music, that does not only get under one’s skin, your head will nod to the beat of the rhythm and you’ll automatically turn up the volume a little bit more. The music lets you feel with him and his emotions. That’s the reason I want to present you the Danish musician BLUE ROSE DOWN, who publish the new single „Sinkin‘My Ships“ today. With his resonator guitar, a fuzz pedal and a threating kickdrum he produces raw bastard blues. In the lyrics the musician deals with mental problems like frustration, self-hatred, chaos and addictions which are still topics that the society doesn’t talk about in an open-minded way. The musician presents the unadorned truth and he takes up the fight with his own demons. With that he shows other people, that they are not alone in the big, wide world and with the music he is able to help others through hard times. To get an inside into the world of BLUE ROSE DOWN and to share with you the musically balsam, I partner up with the musician who is talking about the meaning of the song and the process in the following.
Why self-victimization in a relationship is so dangerous and what it has to do with the song:
„“Sinkin' My Ships” is actually inspired by an ex-girlfriend who once cheated on me way back. Back then I really felt like a victim and I was constantly searching for some kind of comfort, but some years after I somehow managed to think: “What if she cheated on me because I was fucking indolent?”. In many ways this song is about a person, who feels like a victim but really isn't. When you think that you have the right to feel like a victim, you get some sort of power over your relationships. Having this victim mentality can sometimes give you the upper hand in relationships. This can lead to you gain manipulative powers over others, which means that you will force others to feel degraded. In many ways this song is about a sociopath, who feels that he is superior to others because of his self-victimization. To me “Sinkin' My Ships” is a pretty powerful song. It actually tells exactly how I’ve been feeling in a lot of situations; both when it comes to most of the relationships that I've had, but also how I sometimes feel when people label me as the underdog.”
The development of the song:
„Normally I don't like to use a capo on my resonator, but this time I decided to try it; place it on 4th fret and write a rock riff - just to see what would happen. The riff is a hard rock version of a blues lick, which I really like! The guitar parts are inspired by Shakey Graves and his song ''Late July''. I was fucking around with the intro until my good friend Birk, from the band Timechild, told me: “Why don't you just play the first part over and over again?” I tried it and it worked. So I went with Birk’s idea as an intro!
I recorded the song in the summer of 2020 together with my usual producer Anders Overgaard in Copenhagen. Normally when we're in the studio our good friend Rasmus from the band Inthewaves will come by. He always has some good points to share about the material that we're recording. Anders and I had been fighting with the solo for almost two hours when Rasmus came by the studio and told me: “Hey, why don't you play it like you were looking directly into the barrel of a gun? What would be your last thoughts before you died?” We did one take and it was done!
What does BLUE ROSE DOWN want to epress with his songs:
„I want people to listen to the songs and think: “Fuck yes, I agree on this one” and be comfortable with themselves and whatever they're dealing with. I've been writing and talking to a lot of new fans and friends lately, and it's been a true pleasure to hear about their thoughts and feelings when they were listening to my music as they wanted to get back in the saddle. That's exactly what Blue Rose Down is for. It's for everybody and especially the people who want to win their fights and get back up on their feet.
