Leider hat so manch einer die späten Sechziger nicht bzw. nicht bewusst erlebt, die Zeit, in der Rockgrößen wie die ROLLING STONES einen TV-Auftritt zu einem sensationellen Event machten.
Rund 50 Jahre später erscheint nun die Neuauflage dieses Spektakels in Audio- und Video-Version.
Über 50 Jahre ist es nun schon her, dass die Rolling Stones ein BBC-TV-Special planten, das wie eine Zirkusshow aufgezogen werden sollte. Nun wird das Spektakel „Rock And Roll Circus“ erneut auf 3LP, 2CD, DVD und Blu-Ray veröffentlicht (VÖ: 05.07.2019).
Im Norden Londons mietete die Band im Dezember 1968 ein Studio, lud Live-Publikum und befreundete Künstler*innen wie The Who, Jethro Tull, Marianne Faithfull oder Yoko Ono ein und ließ den „Rock And Roll Circus“ einziehen. Regie führte Michael Lindsay-Hogg, im Zentrum der Show standen die Originalmitglieder der Rolling Stones: Mick Jagger, Keith Richards, Brian Jones, Charlie Watts und Bill Wyman, der von Nicky Hopkins und Rocky Dijon unterstützt wird.
Die Band fungierte nicht nur als Gastgeber der Show, sondern war zugleich auch ihre größte Attraktion. Die Rolling Stones performten heutige Klassiker wie „Jumpin‘ Jack Flash“, „Parachute Woman”, „No Expectations“, „You Can’t Always Get What You Want”, „Satisfaction” und „Salt Of The Earth”. Ergänzt wurde die Show um besondere Performances von The Who, Jethro Tull, Taj Mahal, Marianne Faithfull, Yoko Ono und The Dirty Mac. Das Line-Up wurde von einer – aus heutiger Sicht – Supergroup um Eric Clapton (Lead Guitar), Mitch Mitchell (The Jimi Hendrix Experience, Schlagzeug) und John Lennon (Guitar, Vocals) vervollständigt.
