dad tourflag2019An ordinary Wednesday turned into Friday at "Arbis", Swedens oldest amateur theater scene from 1865, when the Danish rockers made us forget everyday life and took us to a rockparty we will late or never forget.
The opening support act also suited perfectly.

VA ROCKS
First out on stage this evening, to warm up the audience, was a group of girls from southern Sweden. They caught our attention immediately and the bitter cold we had felt on the way there was already forgotten.
This was high speed rock 'n' roll. Classic hardrock with rough guitar riffs, hard drums and a steady bass. This rock trio is strongly influenced by bands like AC/DC, RAMONES and THE RUNAWAYS. They have released an EP and two albums, of which the new "I Love VA Rocks" was released a couple of weeks ago.

All three sing, but Ida S. Vollmer has a voice that will knock you out, like someone said. She learned to play guitar from her dad already in the age of seven. Vollmer also writes most of the bands material, but bassist Klara Wedding and drummer Frida Rosén also contribute. A touch of punkrock was heard especially when Klara sang. Her laid back appearance increased that impression.
I do not want to call a young girl a wild beast, but Frida was so exuberantly energetic behind the drums that even her friends on stage gave Rosén that nickname. Her long hair swung in all directions and how she managed to sing from time to time is a little impressive. Cool spotlights in the background spun around and despite the beast behind the drums headbanging, she still managed to play very well.

The group lives for the adrenaline rush on stage, which was clearly shown when Ida got down on her knees and played so that the strings glowed, or when she vigorously made a kick high up in the air.
There was a mix of new and old songs. From the first album "Pull No Punches" (2016) we were served the superb "Bluesman", which is actually a duet with Pontus Snibb (BONAFIDE), but it worked like this too. From the same production was performed "Rattlesnake", among others, where the audience sang along in the catchy chorus. New pieces from the smoking fresh edition were also received with pleasure from us who were there.
After this all of us were filled with joy, energy and excited expectation for the main act.

D-A-D

With about thirtyfive years in the luggage, there are so many songs to choose from. I must say that this concerts setlist was the best I have seen them perform. Thanks to a big selection of songs from the new album "A Prayer For The Loud", but of course also because of a delicious mix of goodies they have created over the years.

This is straightforward hardrock in a natural way, from Danes with a neverending energy. At the beginning of their musical career, they gave themselves an ironic twist with somehow blending punkrock and country, into the fun term "cowpunk". Throw in some Glam Metal and the bands sound is as good as described. They have their own style and the other night we were offered what they do best, playing live, which was an absolutely outstanding show.

During the drive to Norrköping me and my friends had listened to the latest CD and I was hoping to hear the cool "No Doubt About It" in the evening. To my delight, that became reality and it ended ordinary set. Proof of how good this tune is became even clearer, as many fans already had learned the lyrics and spontaneously sang along.
Another new song that I previously also got stuck to was "The Real Me", which has a nice intro, where you immediately feel that this will be good. That one and many more showed up in the concert.
Singer and guitarist Jesper Binzer later asked an exhilarated audience: "Do you want to listen to the title song from the new record?" The answer was, of course, affirmative.
"Is it really sure?" he said amused. The crowd roared a long "Yes" and then the frontman took power all the way down from his toes, through a nice rocksong with bluesfeeling. The new material has influences of the origin of rock and when the singer says a while later: "Listen, now I will play blues", then not only me smiled while receiving "The Sky Is Made Of Blues".
His brother Jacob "Cobber" Binzer is one of those persons who seems to be born with a guitar in his hand. He handles his instrument with passion and dedication. In latest mentioned song Jacob skillfully played slow teasing tones and beautiful melody loops.

As usual, Jesper joked with the audience and a little extra in this particular country. He knows that many people in Sweden do not understand Danish, so like always he spoke Swedish in an exaggerated clear way, which became very funny.

Stig "Stigge" Pedersen, one of the coolest bassists in the world, stood beside and partly on top of the drum podium in "Grow Or Pay" (from "Riskin’ It All", 1991) where he stretched out his arms and moved like a flying bird. Even the music floated around as a light summercloud in the sky and surrounded us all in the room. When the tempo increased everyone began to applaud in the same beat. Bass and drums pumped more and more. Cheering and whistling came after this awesome number.
The two-string bassist designs his own bass guitars inspired from personal taste and vivid imagination. The spectators love to see all his creations and this time I tried to count all the bass instrument swaps. I think it was ten, but maybe the concentration sometimes were elsewhere, so I am not sure.
For example we got to see the fun and fantastic reversed instrument, where the base body is a small copy at the top and the base head instead is the big piece of material he plays on. Another classic is the white head of a bull with red eyes, as well as the black car with flashing taillights. In the first encore "Bad Craziness", the space rocket also appeared.

In one of the talks in between, Jesper told that the drummer Laust Sonne had once mixed up two different cities and also heard that in one of them would be played Thrash. Instead, where he was, it turned out to be Jazz. As a result of this little funny anecdote, Laust now showed us how a drum solo would have sounded if it had been Thrash Metal. At first we laughed and then everyone was amazed and stood there with our mouths opened in an impressive little drumsolo with heavy speed.

"Monster Philosophy" has a wonderful rhythm and I think the whole place was moving in pace. Maybe the man behind the microphone mentioned it, but hips started to swing and almost shaking of butts too. Even if you did not move as much as that, it was impossible to stand still.
An excellent composition, which here contained a great and rocking guitarsolo at full speed from Jacob, with rough and cool guitarplaying by Jesper in a lovely combination.
A fake telephone conversation also took place between the last mentioned Binzer and Sonne, blended with short drumming outbursts and the audience who repeated some random words after the singer, which made the nice mood raise even more.

Absolutely amazingly powerful was the experience of the encore "Sleeping My Day Away". To stand there in the middle of the crowd and sing the entire first verse together, while the artists themselves just gratefully listened before they joined in, that was indescribable. A fantastic feeling of fellowship, where the entertainers on stage will get highest points for perfect contact with the audience.
This number with a powerful crescendo also featured a brilliant guitarsolo with fine melody loops and tough riffs. The whole room boiled, not just by the warm indoor environment, but from pure joy.
The following "Laugh'n A ½" was performed acoustically, with clear, vivacious tones from the Binzer-brother wearing a hat. The silence first spread, then was replaced by loud cheering.
In turn D-A-D applauded the visitors and gave their thumbs up.
I also want to take this opportunity to praise all the hosts and staff, who were so nice and friendly, which made everyone feel welcome. The place of event was old and worn, but yet beautiful. Here we also found very good technology, with a lot of spotlights and lighting effects.
The celebrities under a rolled-up theater curtain said goodbye with the traditional "It’s After Dark" (from the debut album "Call Of The Wild", 1986).

What the fans wanted to hear was there, interspersed with new stuff. Everything felt familiar, but at the same time fresh.
After this uplifting evening, you felt embraced like from a big hug, full of energy and joy. (Anna)
