Interview mit Adam Slack (The Struts) english version only

struts strange days 200“It was undoubtedly a magical ten days for us—and I hope when people hear the album, it gives them a taste of that magic too.” Luke Spiller
When there was the lockdown in LA the members of THE STRUTS were aware that they can't play any show this year. Also the contact between the members would have been limited due to everyone having to stay at home separately. But they wanted to use the time meaningful, so the members, including the producer, locked themselves in for two week to produce a new album. The band wanted to capture the spirit of the time. The final result: "Strange Days". Although the album wasn't released until 16th October 2020, which is already autumn in Europe, but it is never too late to dip into the warmth, sunny and energetic Rock 'N' Roll world of THE STRUTS. And it is never too late to talk about the extraordinary album. When the chance came up to have an interview Adam Slack, I was able to receive additional information about the album.

Sarah-Jane: Would you like to repeat the experience of being locked in a house for some time to produce an album and why?

Adam Slack: Yeah I think all of us really enjoyed it. It was a very creative experience and I think we all truly loved it. We were saying we’d love to do it again for the next album.

Sarah-Jane: Is there a difference between this album and the albums you produced so far?

Adam Slack: Definitely it was completely different. We actually wrote and recorded it all in one place and Gethin and Jed were involved in all the writing side for the first time. I think it was a great experience for us all and what made a horrible start to the year seem a lot better.

Sarah-Jane: What was the best experience during this time? What's your take away from this experience?

Adam Slack: I think believing in ourselves and not overthinking the song writing process. I think in the past we’d spend days and days on songs and pull apart every note, but this was different. We didn’t over think it - if it felt good we ran with it.

Sarah-Jane: How did you record the songs with the other artists during the lockdown period? Were you able to get together during the production?

Adam Slack: Sadly not. Through the power of technology we sent the files to them and they recorded their parts and sent them back.

Sarah-Jane: Why was now the right time to do another feature?

Adam Slack: The idea was to do an EP for the fans but it turned into an album. We know everyone was just sat at home doing nothing due to the lockdown, so we thought it would be fun to try and get as many of our musical friends on as possible.

Sarah-Jane: What is your inspiration when you working with other artists?

Adam Slack: We just work with people who we are fans of!

Sarah-Jane: You also worked with Tom Morello, Joe Elliott and Phil Collen with whom would you like to work with in the future?

Adam Slack: I think something with Elton John would be phenomenal.

Sarah-Jane: Why did you want to stay very close to the original of "Do You Love Me?

Adam Slack: Well we stayed closer to the cover by Girl just because it felt super glam. It was just a fun thing to do.

Sarah-Jane: Were you inspired by the Rolling Stones for "Am I Talking To The Champagne"?

Adam Slack: I think we’re inspired by the Rolling Stones in everything we do, but yeah there’s definitely a “Miss You” Vibe to that song.

Sarah-Jane: Personally what's your favourite song or songs on this album and why? Does it relate more to the music or the lyrics?

Adam Slack: I love Cool, because it just makes me feel good. Its the kind of song you’d put on before you go out for drinks and gets you in the mood. I also love Burn it Down, I just think its a song we’ve been waiting to write for a while and I just love it.
